Filerimos
A monastery among pines, peacocks on the path, and a view along the coast.
Filerimos is a pine-covered hill above Ialysos, on the north-west coast. The ancient city of Ialysos had its acropolis here, and the Knights of St John later built a monastery on the same summit.
What to see
- The monastery of Our Lady of Filerimos and its cloister
- Foundations of a temple of Athena from the ancient acropolis
- A small chapel with medieval wall paintings
- The Way of the Cross: a shaded path past the stations to a huge cross, with views over the coast and out to sea
Good to know
Peacocks roam freely, and there's a small entrance fee. Come in the late afternoon and stay for sunset over the west coast.
