A day trip to Chalki
A tiny island of pastel houses and quiet coves, off the west coast.
Chalki is a small, quiet island a few miles off the west coast of Rhodes. Its one village, Emporio, wraps around the harbour in neoclassical houses painted in soft colours.
Getting there
Boats run from Kamiros Skala on the west coast, and the crossing takes around an hour. Kamiros Skala is about 45 minutes from the villas by car.
On the island
- Wander Emporio's harbour and the lanes behind it
- Swim at Pondamos, a sandy beach a short walk from the harbour
- Walk up to the abandoned old village of Chorio and the Knights' castle above it, early in the day
Good to know
There are few cars on Chalki and little shade on the walks. Take water, and check the boat times both ways.
