Fourni
A wild west-coast beach, with caves cut into the rock.
A winding road drops from Monolithos to Fourni, a long beach of sand and pebbles below pale cliffs. Even in August it rarely gets busy.
The caves
At the end of the beach, caves cut into the rock were used by early Christians as chapels and tombs.
Good to know
- The west coast can be windy; swim on calm days
- Facilities are few, so bring water and shade
- Stay for sunset, then drive up to Monolithos
