Rhodes Town
The harbour, the market and the town beach, just outside the medieval walls.
Most visitors head straight for the Old Town, but the modern town around it deserves an afternoon too. It's the island's capital, busy all year, and built around the old harbour of Mandraki.
Mandraki harbour
Yachts and day-trip boats line the quay. At the harbour mouth, bronze statues of a stag and a doe stand on two columns, the fort of St Nicholas guards the breakwater, and three old windmills stand along the mole.

The New Market and the Italian quarter
Facing the harbour, the New Market is a seven-sided arcade of cafés and shops built in the 1920s, under Italian rule. Walk north along the seafront and you pass more buildings from those years: the Governor's Palace, the Church of the Annunciation and the theatre.

Good to know
Park near the harbour and walk. In summer, boats leave Rhodes Town for Symi and for beaches down the coast.
