Where to watch the sunset on Rhodes
The east coast has the sunrises. For sunsets, head west.
Kolympia faces east, so mornings are the show at the villas: the sun comes up out of the sea. For the sunset, drive across to the west coast, where castles and hilltops look straight out at it.
The best spots
- Monolithos Castle ≈ 50 minA castle on a sheer rock above the sea. The island's most dramatic sunset.
- Kritinia Castle ≈ 45 minCastle walls with a view across to Chalki and the small islands.
- Filerimos ≈ 35 minA pine hill above Ialysos, with the whole north-west coast below.
- Ancient Kamiros ≈ 35 minGolden light on the ancient terraces.
- Ialysos & Ixia ≈ 25 minWatch it from the beach, then eat by the sea.
Good to know
Check sunset time before you leave, allow for winding roads on the way back, and bring a torch for castle steps.
